Age Group :
Abacus ++ program is designed for children of the age 6 to 12 years.
Basic knowledge of the program :
Abacus++ strengthens the mind of the child by teaching him how to solve complex numbers and calculations.
By the time child completes the course they would be solving complex arithmetic problems mentally.
Mental Arithmetic is a good exercise for the development of the brain.
The tool which we are using to impart this program is
Abacus.
Abacus++ is an integrated program of abacus, Vedic math and memorization techniques.
Benefits of the program:
T he syllabus of abacus++ will enable the child to
- Perform fast and accurate Mental Calculations.
- Learn various checking methods to check the answers of various mathematical calculations.
- Memorize and recall list of things
- Understand the place Value System
- Math’s otherwise which burdensome subject for most of the children will become fun and children will develop liking for maths.
- Better Retention and Recall
Very common problem with children is poor retention and recall. The child needs a system through which he\she can deal with this and strengthen his retention and recall.
With Abacus++ program the child will learn various systems through which he can not only recall number of items in sequence but also out of sequence, randomly even in stress situations like exams.
Various checking methods.
The child has fear of math’s, students many a times don’t take the stream of interest if math’s is there as subtraction.
Math’s is abstract. Children don’t understand how to think about it as there is less practical applicability in daily life.
One factor that affects math performance more than any other is confidence. If the child has something by which he can keep a check whether the answer he has arrived at is right or wrong with checking methods, his confidence level will boost up.
Children do not understand math many a times as they do not know how to think about it. There is no concrete representation. Child does not learn day to day application in math's and it becomes less interesting.
Teachers working with young children know that it is not easy with to introduce the concept of numbers and their values. For young children to comprehend the concept of mathematics when presented in abstract form is a long process.
When introducing numbers in early age in nursery, it is introduced through objects, beads etc. The school books also have lot of pictures to make them understand the concept.
Pattern recognition is an important part of our daily lives. Pattern recognition starts from a young age.
There are various exercises in books in which the child has to recognize patterns.
Later Logical Reasoning forms a significant part of various competitive exams which is again based on pattern recognition.
If the child starts to recognize patterns from beginning, it would become his habit and he will not have to make a conscious effort.
Pattern recognition involves making choices, which needs logical thinking.
Abacus ++ involves pattern recognition, which is making choices, which involve thinking and makes math interesting and fun.
It is a process in which one uses reasoning constantly to come to a conclusion. Problems or situations that involve logical thinking calls for structure, for relationship between facts. Basis for all logical thinking is sequential thoughts. You use logical thinking in everyday life like planning the route you will take when shopping in city.
To think logically is to think in steps. Logical thinking allows a child to reject answers such as "I don't know" or "This is too difficult" by making him think and understand better the methods used to arrive at a solution.
Abacus ++ involves various systems which will develop the child's ability to think logically.
Speed and accuracy are very important .Speed is important to finish the paper on time while accuracy ensures good scores.
In competitive examinations like CAT, each second matters. Developing an ability to calculate mentally with speed and high accuracy right from young age would certainly help children do better in such examinations.
This program will help the child to learn how to calculate mentally with speed and accuracy.
Mental arithmetic means to calculate in mind. Practically mental calculation is not only helpful when computing tools are not available, it is also helps to calculate with speed.
In our system practice of mental calculation begins from the 1st term itself through visualization technique.
E.g. 10 to 15 Single Digit No’s can be added or subtracted
10 to 15 Double Digits can be added or subtracted.
Multiplication Double * Double etc. can be done mentally.
- Overall Development of Brain
Overall development of brain is essential for the child to deliver his best. The brain has various skills such as language, logic , math sequencing , creativity , dimension , imagination etc. Researches show that logical faculties are predominately controlled by left side of the brain and creative faculties are predominantly controlled by right part of the brain.
By combining the various elements of brain, an individual's performance can be increased. People using faculties predominated by left brain make good professors, doctor’s engineers. good performers, artists use their right brain predominantly. However to be a mathematician or a scientist or a genius you need skills of both the parts.
In school curriculum children generally deal with reading, writing, arithmetic again which are left brain functions.
Through abacus++ skills like imagination, visualization, dimensions, color, etc, the right brain sequencing, logic, math, and left brain are stimulated to work in cooperation for the best result.
Why at this Age :
- It is best time for nurturing the brain's abilities. It is a stage when a child starts to grasp mathematical concepts. This will build a stronger foundation for their future education endeavors.
- It is also at this stage when the child's school work is lighter.
- It is easy for children to comprehend numeric relationships with the use of concrete objects such as abacus beads to relate numeric values.
- Learning how to compute numbers mentally is equally important, as it will effectively tap the unexploited parts of the brain and therefore promotes the overall intelligence. The regular practice of mental arithmetic will sharpen the imaginative and memory power.
Why abacus when we have calculators :
One of the most negative aspects of the electronic calculator in the hands of a youngster is that while the game of pressing numbered button will always deliver the correct answer, the child’s intellectual development and understanding of the significance of numbers will not have been enhanced.
- We tend to believe that the calculator is our slave, yet the opposite is true. With their miraculous magnitude of computation, these magical beasts” – in the hands of a child who has little or no comprehension of basic arithmetic- becomes the master. When we fail to exercise our bodies, we become soft and flabby; when we are not required to use our minds, they too become soft.
- The speed of the calculator is only as rapid as the input of information by the human hand.
- The calculator can only accept a single piece of data – 1 digit at a time. In other words, it cannot, like the human brain, take in 2 or more digits simultaneously.
- With this system they not only learn the answer to a math problem, but more important they understand WHY and HOW the answer was achieved.
- With electronic calculators, it is common for a child to obtain answer to problem and NEVER fully understands how or why that answer was achieve
